True surrender is relaxing into wholeness. This is relaxing into Innersense – the overall warm, tingly, open, formless aliveness of the body from head to feet – as a response to taking things personally, or the pain of separation.
Unless we are fully embodied in open Innersense, we live in a separate world: the world of me and my body, my thoughts, my emotions, my environment etc. This imaginary place is not real and investment in it perpetuates suffering. We battle with mental-emotional aspects of ourselves and remain perpetually dissatisfied and unfulfilled.
While we stay in this separate world, there is always something else to do, or more to overcome; we’re never quite complete and never will be.
Life is one. There never was and never will be any separation between aspects of experience, only the appearance of separation. When we experience life from Innersense, the labelling function of intelligence is neutralized and everything is perceived effortlessly as it is. Everything appears softer and the body begins to glow with an inner light, as its energy is no longer syphoned off to fuel a false, mad, separate me.
Be like the beautiful, strong tree which has taken root in good, deep soil. Relax back into the formless ocean of yourself whenever you feel a wave of separation arising. Be in Innersense, your natural state; awakened in the dream of your Self.
See that unconditional Innersense is all your experience wants from you. In the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu states: “When people see things as beautiful, ugliness is created. When people see things as good, evil is created”. This a beautiful insight into the divisiveness of thought; by identifying with and aspiring to goodness, we unwittingly identify with evil.
If you would be truly free, surrender all need to improve yourself and others. Surrender again and again into the wholeness of Innersense, noticing each time how your body responds by relaxing and smiling, welcoming you home.
